The Dangers of Being Brave & True
Book 1 of 5
Until now, Brave Kingsfort has been Captain Average. Average family. Average drama at school. Unremarkable life.
But when his anger summons a burst of elemental magic, his mom is forced to reveal three unbelievable things: he’s royalty, he has powers and he’s not from around here.
When True Harborsfort falls asleep at night, it’s always the same dream; she’s a magical flying horse. Over the years, she’s learned to keep that peculiarity very quiet. But after she barely escapes a ruthless attack on her school, everything changes. Including herself. In terrifying ways. So why does it feel so good?
Separated from everyone they love, Brave and True’s worlds collide as they reluctantly embark on an epic adventure through the wilds of Arvalonia to escape the evil of an imposter queen and her enchanted forces.
An Element of Magic
Book 2 of 5
An elemental power-up and a royal mission that flies sideways fast!
Being a prince sucks! It’s been three months since Mallevia croaked and Brave is grumpy. True’s taken off, he has no friends and his mom refuses to answer important questions. What’s worse, his elements are misbehaving.
True is learning to live with wings and a tail and loves the freedom to fly but her family doesn’t approve. Desperate to escape their selfish plans, she accepts the royal court’s offer, only to discover an impossible task clouded in secrets.
Elsewhere, the country rebuilds in the wake of the fake queen’s dark deeds, and in a hidden corner something nameless and loathsome awakens.
Guardians of the Spell
Book 3 of 5
What happens when the buried secrets of the past come back to bite you?
When Brave and his friends uncover an enchanted message and the Queen Regent reveals an inconceivable secret, Brave is forced to face his fears and wrangle his elemental powers, with dire consequences.
True must win the trust of strangers who saved her life but hate her kind. Their stories throw history in a new light and she questions her mission. But finding a new purpose means overcoming doubt and making peace with the dangerous alpine hunter Fidd, who she might be starting to fall for.
Meanwhile, creeping through the wilds, a nameless beast draws closer.
Rise of the Grindragon
Book 4 of 5
The grin-dragons are rising. They crave human flesh. And they’re reshaping reality for everyone Brave and True hold dear.
Brave flees south to discover the mysterious city of Vigil holds answers to many of his urgent questions. But will a strange encounter with the towers solve his problems or create more?
True is trapped. Caught in the ruthless grasp of the Ascenders and their emperor, she must fight her way to freedom and embrace a shocking truth about her own elemental magic.
Ready yourself for magical transformation, emerging powers and an awful lot of teeth.
If you’re looking for a calm, cosy beach read, this one is not for you.

Hello and welcome!
I’m a dragon-loving, fantasy and science fiction geek and Aretha Franklin fan who thrives on writing and reading. I write magical fantasy fiction with elemental magic, magic school vibes, shapeshifting, swords and monsters. I like salt, not sugar.
I started writing creatively when I was 10 years old and haven’t stopped since. Some ideas started off teeny, tiny in the middle of the night and grew into enormous, fantastical worlds and full length novels. Three things guide my writing every day:
- Get your idea down as soon as it pops into your head, whether it’s 4am or the middle of an important meeting.
- Share your writing with others. Fantastic mentors and patient writing friends are essential.
- Don’t listen to that dopey voice in your head that says you can’t do it. Put the doubt in time out!
I also run fantasy writing workshops, and I’m a member of Tauranga Writers, SpecFicNZ and Bookrapt.
